Insurance Policy for Turkey
Turkey is not only top destination for travelers but also a leader among countries in the number of accidents, road traffic accidents, poisonings, and other incidents. Medical care in Turkey is quite expensive, and there are no free services for foreigners (except in the case of road traffic accidents). When planning your trip independently, you can choose insurance that meets your requirements on our website and in the app. If you are purchasing insurance as part of a tour, pay attention to the coverage amount, the presence/absence of a deductible (the amount the tourist pays independently in case of a claim) and important limitations (coverage of activities, exacerbations of chronic diseases).
Touristic and Medical Risks in the Country
Viruses and Infections
Enteroviral and rotaviral infections are prevalent in Turkey, as in other hot countries. Crowded places, heat, and the natural source of spread—the sea—all contribute to this. Children, especially those with weak immune systems, are most susceptible to infections.
Accidents
Automobile accidents are a scourge of Turkish tourism in general. Traffic rules in this country are often disregarded. During the high season, additional buses with less qualified drivers are deployed on excursion routes, while experienced drivers work with minimal breaks and literally fall asleep at the wheel.
Gastrointestinal Disorders
The variety of sweets, fatty foods, and alcohol in all-inclusive hotels often lead to daily overeating and can cause gastrointestinal disorders. Dishes containing eggs, sausage, or meat, cakes and pastries stored at improper temperatures, and low-quality alcohol can lead to poisoning.
Injuries at Attractions
Adrenaline and excitement during beach games and entertainment, visits to water parks, and rides on children's and adult attractions can result in abrasions or even serious injuries. Accidents involving tourists are regularly registered in resort cities in Turkey.
Sunburns and Heat Strokes
The sun in Turkey requires increased safety measures. It is recommended to always have sunscreen (including good sunglasses), a small supply of water, headdress, and light cotton clothing that covers the body. Note that our insurance does not cover sunburns and heat strokes.
Features of Healthcare in Turkey
Emergency Assistance
Medical emergency in Turkey can be called by dialing 112. Emergency services in Turkey are called only in the most serious situations: accidents, multiple injuries, heart attacks, etc. In all other cases, you will have to make your way to the hospital independently. However, it is essential to find out which clinic or hospital is currently on duty.
Public Healthcare
Public healthcare is widely available throughout Turkey, including large multidisciplinary centers and district clinics. Despite the presence of modern equipment, there is unfortunately a shortage of qualified doctors, but this issue is gradually being addressed by increasing the number of graduates and hiring foreign specialists, including our compatriots.
Private Healthcare
Thanks to investments in the medical field, Turkey is emerging as one of the countries profiting from medical tourism. Commercial medical centers of various specialties, equipped to the highest standards, are opening everywhere. The advantage is reasonable prices compared to Germany and Israel. In resort cities on the Turkish coast, there are specific features of servicing tourists. Hotels have medical offices with resident doctors, or the hotel has agreements with the nearest private medical clinic. Private doctors, for a moderate fee, address typical problems of vacationers: sunburns, overheating, minor injuries, gastrointestinal disorders.
Pharmacies
Pharmacies can be found in every city and village. The sign will read "ECZANE" on a red background or simply a large letter E. Pharmacies operate during the day, and on weekends or at night, you can buy the necessary medicines only at the duty pharmacy. A prescription is not mandatory for the purchase of many medications, and the pharmacist can recommend a particular drug depending on the symptoms.
