Insurance Policy for Thailand
Thailand is the leader in the number of requests to our service company, which is 35% of the total number of insurance claims. On the one hand, Thailand's well-developed medical infrastructure helps in organizing emergency assistance for travelers, on the other hand, the remoteness of the country creates certain difficulties during medical evacuation home. There are a number of specific requests for help that typical for the country. In addition to the traditional issues faced by travelers, such as respiratory infections, otitis, food poisoning, and gastrointestinal problems, Thailand sees a significant number of cases related to Dengue fever, injuries from road accidents, and complaints about animal bites.
Insurance Features and Risks in the Country
Insurance for Scooter/Motorbike Riding
Our insurance covers injuries sustained by the driver/passenger of a motorbike under the following conditions:
-Possession of a valid driver's license corresponding to the category;
-Sobriety;
-Wearing a helmet.
Additional options for motorbike coverage are not necessary; this is covered by regular insurance, provided the above conditions are met. We recommend obtaining an international driving permit (IDP) or local driver's license before your trip, especially if you plan to stay in Thailand for an extended period. The presence of a license of the appropriate type during a traffic accident will be evaluated based on the police report, and an IDP specifically meets all requirements of the Thai police. Regarding civil liability: injuries to another person, damage to the motorbike, or someone else's property resulting from a traffic accident are not covered by insurance, even with the "Personal liability" option activated. If you are renting a bike or a car, consider additional local liability insurance.
Dengue Fever and Malaria
Our policy covers cases of Dengue fever and malaria. There are no vaccines for these diseases. The only exception is if you travel to an area officially declared an epidemic. It is important to remember that children are at increased risk. Prevention, as with mosquito protection, is crucial: do not neglect repellents, protective nets, canopies, etc., when traveling in disease-prone regions. If there is suspicion of illness, our operators will direct you to a hospital, where blood tests and symptomatic treatment will be administered.
Monkey, Dog, and Other Animal Bites
Yes, the policy covers cases of emergency vaccination. What is the risk of rabies infection? The Thai government strives to prevent disease outbreaks; stray animals are subject to mandatory vaccination. Despite all efforts, three cases of death from rabies virus were recorded among locals in 2023 Do not neglect vaccination after animal bites.
If You're Already in Thailand
You may purchase our policy even while abroad. The only limitation is that it takes effect on the 6th day after payment, and it includes a mandatory deductible of $50. So, count 6 days from the purchase date and enter the resulting number in the 'Departure Date' field. This is necessary to avoid overpaying for days when the policy is not active. If you want to buy an annual policy, please note that the duration of stay abroad plays a significant role in yearly travel policies (365, 365+, 365++). The policy is valid for only 91 days abroad (from the moment of crossing the border). After that, you need to return to your country of permanent residence. When you leave your country's borders, the policy becomes active again. If this option doesn't suit you, you can purchase a short-term policy with a validity period of up to 1 year.
Distinctive Features of Healthcare
Medical Standards
Many healthcare facilities in Thailand conform to international quality standards. Clinics are typically equipped with modern technology. Doctors and medical staff in private clinics often pursue education abroad. There is a division between public healthcare and private clinics, but foreigners rarely referred in public hospitals.
English Language
Numerous doctors and medical specialists are proficient in English, especially in private clinics in major cities and tourist regions. These hospitals have departments dedicated to working with foreigners and even have in-house translators. However, language may pose a challenge in remote areas.
Medication Dispensing
After consultation with a doctor, patients usually receive a package of prescribed medications. The package typically contains the exact number of tablets calculated for the prescribed duration. If the medication is not divisible, such as eye drops, a whole bottle is provided. If the course needs to be continued, patients usually consult the doctor again.
Traditional Medicine
Many doctors prescribe treatments from the realm of traditional medicine, including acupuncture, herbal inhalation, massage, and various physiotherapy procedures. Local pharmacies feature extensive sections with various dietary supplements, ointments, herbs, and products based on them. It's important to note that coverage for this branch of medicine is not included in traveler's insurance.
Medical Services on Islands
Small islands in Thailand usually have limited options for medical assistance. It may be a small branch of a larger hospital. For complex surgeries or emergencies involving small children, they may suggest calling a medical speedboat to transfer the patient to the mainland.
Medical Service Prices
Prices may vary depending on the specific city, healthcare facility, service level, and type of procedures.
